Vijay orders action against corruption after surprise hospital visit

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay conducted a surprise inspection at the Government Hospital for Children in Egmore on Thursday, reviewing healthcare facilities, patient services and future expansion plans while directing officials to take strict action against corruption.

During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Health Minister Arunraaj. The two reviewed the hospital’s infrastructure, ongoing medical services and proposals to improve healthcare delivery.

CM reviews patient care and hospital facilities

Vijay inspected various departments of the hospital and interacted with officials to assess the quality of patient care and the availability of essential medical facilities.

The Chief Minister also reviewed plans for expanding the hospital’s infrastructure to meet the growing demand for specialised paediatric healthcare.

Zero tolerance for corruption

During the inspection, Vijay directed officials to initiate strict action against hospital staff found to be involved in corruption or demanding illegal payments from patients and their families.

He stressed that government hospitals must provide transparent, efficient and people-centric services, adding that any form of bribery or misconduct would not be tolerated.

Focus on accountability

The surprise visit is seen as part of the Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to improve public healthcare services and strengthen accountability within government institutions.

Officials said the inspection aimed to identify shortcomings in hospital administration, ensure better patient care and reinforce transparency in the functioning of public health facilities.

The Chief Minister also instructed the Health Department to continue monitoring hospitals closely and ensure that citizens receive quality healthcare without facing harassment or corruption
