India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty ended their two-year title drought by winning the Singapore Open 2026 men’s doubles title on Sunday. The fourth seeds defeated Indonesia’s third-seeded duo, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 in a thrilling final.
The victory made Satwik and Chirag the first Indian men’s doubles pair to win the Singapore Open title. It was also their third Super 750 title, following their French Open triumphs in 2022 and 2024. The duo last won a BWF World Tour title at the Thailand Open in 2024.
They reached the final after defeating world No. 1 pair Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae 21-19, 21-18 in the semi-finals on Saturday. The Korean pair had entered the tournament on a 34-match winning streak.
The opening game was a closely contested affair, with both pairs going neck and neck. At the interval, Satwik and Chirag led 11-9, but the Indonesians fought back strongly in the closing stages. Alfian and Fikri mounted a late comeback to take the first game 21-18.
The Indian duo responded brilliantly in the second game. Satwik’s powerful smashes and Chirag’s commanding presence at the net helped them build an 11-8 lead at the interval. Although the Indonesians reduced the gap late on, Satwik and Chirag remained in control and took the game 21-17 to force a decider.
The Indian pair carried that momentum into the final game. Satwik and Chirag raced to an 11-5 advantage before Alfianand Fikri fought back to narrow the deficit to 12-11. However, the Indians delivered when it mattered most.
Satwik unleashed a series of powerful smashes to help the pair move to 20-15, and they eventually sealed the victory when Alfian’s return found the net, sparking celebrations from the Indian duo.
“I am a bit numb today as we have won a title after a gap of two years,” Satwik said after the win. “Before coming here, we were a bit nervous because we had not done very well here in the past. But this week was special.”
The title comes just two weeks after Satwik and Chirag finished runners-up at the 2026 Thailand Open, a result that proved to be a major boost ahead of the rest of the season.
In the other finals, South Korea’s An Se-young won the women’s singles title after beating Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-11, 17-21, 21-19. China’s Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxianclaimed the women’s doubles crown with a 22-20, 21-19 victory over Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning. Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje won the mixed doubles title after defeating Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara17-21, 21-12, 21-12. The tournament concluded with France’s Alex Lanier defeating Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles final.
