England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is set to miss Hobart Hurricanes’ title defence in the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) Season 12 after an injury interrupted English summer.
Hurricanes head coach Jude Coleman has also confirmed that the star all-rounder will not return for the new season after playing a key role in their maiden WBBL title in 2025.
“We have already heard from Nat Sciver-Brunt that she’s not coming back this year at all to the tournament,” Coleman told reporters in Hobart, as quoted by cricket.com.au. “It’s a disappointing loss for us, but we completely understand. She’s had a heavy English summer fighting injuries. She’ll also have the WPL (Women’s Premier League) in January, so it’s really her only time to get some time at home with her son and wife.”
Sciver-Brunt has been managing her calf problem since May and was also forced to play as a specialist batter against New Zealand and India. She averaged 113 across four T20 World Cup innings. She also returned to action in The Hundred last week, where she scored 37 not out and 33 for Trent Rockets.
Sciver-Brunt played a major role in Hobart’s WBBL 11 triumph, scoring 81 off 48 balls against Perth Scorchers and 35 in the final.
WBBL Season 12 is set to start on October 29.
