Blackstone Explores Investment Opportunities in West Bengal, Holds High-Level Meeting in Kolkata

Kolkata: In a significant development for West Bengal’s investment landscape, senior representatives of Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative asset manager, visited Kolkata to explore potential investment opportunities in the state. The delegation held high-level discussions with top state government officials and leading industrialists at the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) headquarters on Camac Street.

The meeting was attended by West Bengal Industry Minister Tapas Roy, Chief Adviser to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Subrata Gupta, and Industry Secretary as well as WBIDC Managing Director Vandana Yadav. The discussions focused on strengthening the state’s investment ecosystem and identifying sectors for future collaboration.

Blackstone was represented by Gautam Banerjee, Senior Managing Director and Chairman of Blackstone Singapore. Banerjee, who also serves on the boards of Singapore Airlines and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC Private Ltd, engaged with several prominent business leaders from West Bengal.

Among those present were Harsh V. Neotia, Chairman of the Ambuja Neotia Group, Vijay Dewan, Managing Director of Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels, and Utsav Parekh, Director of Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd, along with other industry representatives.

The meeting reflects West Bengal’s ongoing efforts to attract global investors and enhance industrial growth by fostering stronger partnerships with international investment firms. Blackstone’s visit is expected to boost investor confidence and could pave the way for future investments across sectors such as infrastructure, real estate, logistics, hospitality, and urban development in the state.

While no formal investment announcements were made following the meeting, officials described the discussions as constructive and aimed at exploring long-term opportunities for economic growth and job creation in West Bengal.
