India, Brazil Sign Telecom and ICT Cooperation Pact

Pune, 21st Aug: India and Brazil on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), marking a significant step towards expanding collaboration in emerging digital technologies.

The agreement was signed by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazil’s Communications Minister Frederico de Siqueira Filho on the sidelines of the BRICS ICT Track Meeting in Pune.

The MoU aims to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation in telecommunications and digital technologies through regular exchanges of information, policy experiences and best practices based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Speaking after the signing, Scindia said the agreement would deepen India-Brazil cooperation and open new avenues for collaboration in universal connectivity, cybersecurity, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), emerging technologies, capacity building and knowledge sharing.

Under the agreement, both countries will collaborate across a broad spectrum of strategic technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G and 6G networks, Open RAN, Internet of Things (IoT), Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs), spectrum management and satellite communications.

The partnership also covers digital infrastructure development, optical fibre and submarine cable networks, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, consumer protection, private communication networks and environmentally sustainable ICT solutions.

According to the Ministry of Communications, the agreement reflects the shared commitment of India and Brazil to accelerate digital innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure and expand cooperation in advanced telecommunications technologies.

Officials said the MoU provides a forward-looking framework to promote joint initiatives in connectivity, innovation, capacity building and international cooperation, further reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two BRICS nations in the digital domain.
