Beltangady: Police have arrested a warrant accused who had been evading court proceedings for nearly five years in connection with a criminal case registered at Dharmasthala police station. The accused was traced to Bengaluru and taken into custody before being produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
The arrested accused has been identified as Murthy alias Pintu (37), a resident of Bengaluru. He was wanted in connection with Dharmasthala police station Crime No. 65/2017, registered under Sections 395 and 397 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Accused had been absconding for years
According to police, Murthy had repeatedly failed to appear before the court in connection with the pending criminal case. He had remained absconding for nearly five years, prompting the court to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Despite repeated efforts to secure his presence before the court, the accused allegedly continued to evade legal proceedings, leading investigators to intensify efforts to trace his whereabouts.
Police gathered information regarding his movements and eventually tracked him to Bengaluru.
Arrested in Bengaluru
Acting on the court-issued warrant, personnel from Dharmasthala police station launched an operation to apprehend the accused.
Police personnel Vrushabha and Charan Raj successfully traced Murthy alias Pintu in Bengaluru and arrested him without incident.
Following his arrest, the accused was brought to Dakshina Kannada and produced before the jurisdictional court on August 5.
Remanded to judicial custody
After hearing the matter, the court remanded Murthy alias Pintu to judicial custody.
Police said the arrest marks the successful execution of a long-pending warrant and forms part of continued efforts to trace absconding accused persons and ensure that they face legal proceedings.
Officials reiterated that individuals who evade court appearances and remain absconding will continue to be traced and apprehended through sustained police action.
