Jaipur, 18th Sept. President Droupadi Murmu attended the 18th convocation ceremony of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Wednesday. During her address, she emphasized the critical role of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in advancing quality technical education and research across the country.

Highlighting the importance of NITs, President Murmu remarked that they serve as institutions of national importance, producing skilled human resources. She noted that half the students in NITs are from the home state, while the other half come from across India, contributing to the nation’s spirit of unity in diversity.

The President acknowledged MNIT’s efforts in fostering innovation, particularly through its Innovation and Incubation Centre. To date, 125 start-ups have been registered, creating new employment opportunities. She further pointed out MNIT’s recent achievement of ranking among the top 50 engineering institutes in India, according to NIRF’s 2024 rankings, and expressed confidence that the institution could break into the top 10.

President Murmu also stressed the importance of women’s participation in research and development (R&D), praising the increased enrollment of girls in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) fields. She celebrated the fact that out of 20 gold medals awarded at the convocation, 12 were won by female students, despite girls comprising just 29% of the graduating class.

Encouraging the students to embrace the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, she expressed confidence in their ability to leverage the knowledge and skills gained at MNIT to succeed in their future endeavors.

The President also lauded MNIT’s establishment of a Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering, reflecting the institution’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements during the fourth industrial revolution.
