Subsequent to collapse of a building at Saket, New Delhi on 30.05.2026 killing six persons and injuring eight others because of massive unauthorized construction and use of building for commercial purpose without permission, Honourable Lt Governor and Chief Minister of Delhi directed Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to strictly enforce building bylaws to curb illegal structural expansions in the city.
In this context, MCD officials should urgently demolish unauthorized construction carried out at building number 16-E Kamla Nagar, Delhi including raised additional floors over the original plan of the building apart from front and rear side projections made over government land at second and third floors beyond 75-percent ground coverage at second and third floors as per enclosed MCD report dated 23.04.2025 which may even cause fatality to residents of adjoining buildings in case of possible collapse of the said seven decade old building.
Action should also be taken against owner of the building and the contractor for carrying out unauthorized construction in the said building. Exemplary action is necessary against concerned MCD officials of the area responsible for overlooking unauthorized construction in the said building. It should also be ensured that the said building may not be used for commercial purposes.
