The BCCI will review India’s performances in Ireland and England, cricket board secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed to RevSportz. A knee-jerk reaction is unlikely, as the BCCI feels that the team – the reigning World T20 champions – have suddenly hit a slump. A change in the coaching staff at this moment is all but ruled out.
“This is just a bad phase, which can happen,” said Saikia. “We will have a review meeting with the core members of the team after the ODI series is over on July 19. We will try to understand what went wrong in England and Ireland, and will try to do the course correction. We hope that the team will get back to winning ways soon.”
After suffering a whitewash in the two-match T20I series in Ireland, the Shreyas Iyer-led Indian team have lost three of their first four matches in the ongoing series against England — the other game being a washout. In Nottingham, India were bowled out for 76, while in the fourth T20I in Bristol, they lost by nine wickets with 37 balls to spare. A three-match ODI series will follow the ongoing T20Is.
The review meeting is likely to involve Shreyas, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, along with the BCCI top brass.
