Bengaluru: Disturbing accounts from parents of children allegedly abused at a daycare centre operating on the premises of Capgemini in Bengaluru’s Brookfield have revealed the emotional trauma suffered by the young victims. Several parents have reported alarming behavioural changes in their children following the incident, which has triggered widespread outrage and a multi-agency investigation.
Parents recount children’s distress
One family told police that their child has developed a fear of using the toilet after attending the daycare. “Our child cries whenever we mention the toilet and appears frightened even while sleeping at night,” the parents said.
Another family reported that their child, who once happily attended the daycare, now becomes terrified at the mere mention of it. The child has also reportedly begun screaming during sleep and displaying sudden bursts of anger.
These complaints emerged after a video allegedly showing caregivers physically abusing children surfaced and was handed over to authorities.
Police arrest accused, probe continues
The HAL Police registered a case after receiving information through the Child Helpline regarding the alleged abuse. Two daycare employees have since been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, while investigations are continuing.
Police also arrested a woman identified as Sujatha, who recorded the incident. According to reports, the video captured inside the facility brought the alleged abuse to light.
Following the incident, Capgemini temporarily shut down the daycare centre and announced that counselling support would be arranged for the affected children and their families.
Child rights panels step in
Teams from the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights visited the daycare centre and the HAL Police Station to review the investigation. The National Commission has also taken suo motu cognisance of the case.
State Commission Chairman Santosh Kumar said legal action had been initiated promptly after the Child Helpline received a complaint on June 25. Officials inspected the facility, collected evidence, and are monitoring the progress of the investigation.
