Mangaluru: Veteran Konkani singer, musician and composer Henry D’Souza, best known for the evergreen Konkani song ‘Ye Ye Katrina’, passed away in Mumbai on Friday, August 14. He was 83.
Henry D’Souza leaves behind a rich musical legacy
Born in 1943 in Basrikatte in Chikkamagaluru district, Henry D’Souza moved to Mumbai in 1965 and went on to become a prominent name in Konkani music.
His iconic song ‘Ye Ye Katrina’, along with ‘Ami Dogee Sezari’, was scripted nearly five decades ago and continues to remain popular among Konkani music lovers. The songs have retained their appeal across generations and remain closely associated with Konkani musical culture.
A career spanning thousands of songs
During his long and distinguished career, Henry D’Souza composed and directed more than 2,000 songs. He also performed in several countries, taking Konkani music to audiences beyond India.
D’Souza further contributed to the growth of Konkani music through Akashvani, where he rendered more than 200 Konkani songs. His work helped popularise the language and its musical traditions among a wide audience.

Henry D’Souza passed away in Mumbai due to age-related ailments. His death marks the loss of a celebrated singer and influential personality who made a lasting contribution to Konkani music.
