Team India had their first training session at the ICC Academy in Dubai as they began preparations for their Women’s Asia Cup opener against Thailand on August 30.
After the usual warm-up drills, the players took part in a short football session before moving to the nets. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma were both seen batting for a brief period, with Smriti spending around 40–45 minutes at the nets. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also had an extended batting session and was seen interacting with several players, including young leg-spinner Prema Rawat, who bowled to the captain.
Deepti Sharma was seen bowling to Shafali, while Pratika Rawal also attracted attention. The opener had a brief chat with head coach Amol Muzumdar before spending close to 30 minutes batting. Bowling coach Aavishkar Silva was seen regularly interacting with the bowlers, particularly Kranti Gaud. Arundhati Reddy, meanwhile, looked in good rhythm and bowled an extended spell.
Young wicketkeeper G Kamalini was also involved in wicketkeeping drills.
Interestingly, Jaya Sharma, a member of the current India Women’s selection panel, was present at the session, observing the team’s preparations alongside former India Women chief selector Neetu David.
On August 29, the Women in Blue will have another training session at the ICC Academy Oval from 6–8pm local time. A pre-match press conference is scheduled before the session.
