Mangaluru: A woman from Kodial has lodged a complaint with the Mangaluru Women’s Police Station, alleging that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband and several members of his family.
Based on the complaint filed by Sridevi Raghavendra Acharya Samruddhi, police have registered a case against her husband, Raghavendra Acharya, a resident of Car Street, Mangaluru, along with his father Narasimha Acharya, mother Gayatri Acharya, and sisters Vaishali Acharya, Kshama Acharya and Aishwarya Acharya.
Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations.
Couple married in December 2024
According to the complaint, Sridevi and Raghavendra got married on December 22, 2024. She alleged that problems began after she moved into her husband’s house following the marriage.
The woman has accused her husband and his family members of subjecting her to mental and physical harassment.
She further alleged that she faced continued mistreatment at the matrimonial home and that several members of her husband’s family were involved in insulting and harassing her.
The allegations made in the complaint are now part of the police investigation, and the accused will have an opportunity to present their side as the legal process progresses.
Allegation of extramarital relationship
In her complaint, Sridevi also alleged that her husband was involved in an extramarital relationship.
She further claimed that her in-laws forced her to change her name to Sridevi Raghavendra Acharya.
According to the complaint, she was allegedly subjected to mental harassment by her husband and his family members in connection with various issues after the marriage.
The woman has named her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and three sisters-in-law in the complaint registered with the Mangaluru Women’s Police Station.
Police are expected to examine the allegations and collect relevant information as part of the investigation.
Alleged assault during pregnancy
One of the serious allegations raised in the complaint concerns the period of her pregnancy.
Sridevi alleged that she was assaulted while she was pregnant. She further claimed that after the birth of her child, neither she nor the child received proper care.
She has also accused her mother-in-law, father-in-law and sisters-in-law of insulting and mentally harassing her.
The complaint alleges that the harassment involved both physical and mental distress and continued over a period after the marriage.
Based on the allegations, police have registered a case against all six accused.
Police register case
The Mangaluru Women’s Police Station has taken up the complaint and registered a case against Raghavendra Acharya, his parents and three sisters.
Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and examine the claims made by the complainant.
