Belagavi police have cracked the mysterious death of a former serviceman, uncovering what they allege was a carefully planned murder driven by an extramarital relationship and a ₹2 crore insurance payout.
The victim, 46-year-old Sandeep Manjaragi from Ghodageri village in Hukkeri taluk, died under suspicious circumstances in March after surviving a minor road accident.
Accident survivor dies unexpectedly
According to investigators, Sandeep sustained minor injuries in a motorcycle accident near Ghataprabha in Gokak taluk on March 13 and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
Police said he was recovering steadily when his condition suddenly deteriorated, leading to his death on March 15. Initially, the death appeared to be linked to injuries sustained in the accident.
However, inconsistencies in the case prompted a deeper investigation.
Alleged conspiracy uncovered
Police allege that Sandeep’s wife, Suma, 40, and her alleged boyfriend, Pundalik Dombar, 26, conspired to eliminate him so they could continue their relationship without obstacles.
Investigators also suspect that the accused were motivated by the victim’s ₹2 crore insurance policy.
Pundalik was reportedly a former business partner of Sandeep in a hotel venture and later worked as the family’s driver after the business failed.
Forensic probe leads to breakthrough
Police suspect the accused may have received assistance from hospital laboratory staff in administering pesticide through a saline line while Sandeep was undergoing treatment.
The investigation gained momentum after evidence relating to the woman’s alleged extramarital relationship emerged. Sustained questioning reportedly exposed the alleged murder plot.
As part of the investigation, police exhumed Sandeep’s body on court orders and sent it for forensic examination.
Officials said the accused have allegedly confessed during questioning. Further investigation is underway, and authorities are awaiting additional forensic evidence to strengthen the case. #Belagavi #CrimeNews #KarnatakaPolice #Investigation #ExServiceman #newskarnataka
