West Indies will have to play the World Cup Qualifier to reach the 2027 ODI World Cup after missing out on a direct qualification spot. The two-time champions (1975 and 1979) are currently 10th in the ODI rankings and cannot move into the top eight before the September 30 cut-off.
West Indies will play two ODIs against India before the deadline, but even if they win both of them, it will not be enough to secure direct qualification.
The Caribbean side will now play the Qualifier in February 2027. They faced the same situation before the 2023 World Cup, but failed to qualify after finishing fifth in the Super Six stage.
It was the first time West Indies missed an ODI World Cup. As a result, they also missed the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The 2027 Qualifier will feature West Indies, Ireland, four teams from World Cup League 2 and four teams from the Qualifier Playoff.
The winner will directly reach the second round of the World Cup, while the teams finishing second, third and fourth will get another chance through the Super Series.
