Voltas Ltd, a leading Tata Group company in the cooling products segment, reported a 58% year-on-year drop in consolidated net profit for the first quarter, standing at ₹140.6 crore. The sharp decline was attributed to a combination of a milder-than-expected summer and the onset of early monsoon, which adversely affected air conditioner (AC) sales during the peak season.
Despite subdued consumer demand, Voltas retained its market leadership in the cooling products category, highlighting its strong brand presence and distribution network. The company’s revenue from operations showed marginal growth, supported by other segments such as engineering products and services.
Industry experts noted that the performance was impacted by unpredictable weather patterns and changing consumer buying behavior, pushing companies to re-strategize their product offerings and marketing efforts. Voltas management remains confident about recovery in the coming quarters, driven by festive season demand, improved inventory management, and the introduction of energy-efficient appliances.
The company is also focusing on expanding its product portfolio, including commercial refrigeration and air purification solutions, to mitigate risks associated with seasonal demand fluctuations.
