Vaibhav Sooryavanshi marked a memorable day in Indian cricket by making his T20I debut in the second match against England at Old Trafford on July 4.
He scored a brisk 14 off 10 balls before being dismissed by Will Jacks, giving fans a glimpse of his fearless approach at the top of the order.
The 15-year-old, who did not feature in the preceding T20I series against Ireland, was handed his maiden international cap by vice captain Tilak Varma and opened the batting with Abhishek Sharma.
More importantly, Sooryavanshi (15 years 99 days) became the youngest player to represent Indian men’s team in international cricket, on his debut.
Although the innings lasted only 14 runs, the match will be remembered as the beginning of Sooryavanshi’s international journey.
However, the promising start didn’t last long. In the fifth over, Jacks drew Sooryavanshi out of his crease with a delivery that spun away. The youngster, looking to cut the ball, was beaten by the turn, and Jos Buttler made no mistake behind the stumps, completing a neat stumping to end his innings on 14.
