Uttar Pradesh Pitches Pharma Hub Goal, Invites Japanese Investment for Industrial Growth

Published:

Lucknow: The Government of Uttar Pradesh (UP) has set its sights on becoming a major pharmaceutical and life sciences hub, inviting Japanese companies to invest in the state’s expanding industrial ecosystem. The move aligns with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision to transform UP into a global manufacturing and innovation powerhouse.

During a recent investment meet held in Tokyo, senior officials from the UP Industrial Development Authority showcased the state’s Pharma Park projects, fiscal incentives, and upcoming Bulk Drug and Medical Device Parks under the UP Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy 2022.

Speaking at the event, Additional Chief Secretary (Infrastructure & Industrial Development) Manoj Kumar Singh emphasized that Uttar Pradesh offers competitive land rates, skilled manpower, and robust logistics connectivity, making it an ideal destination for Japanese investors looking to diversify beyond traditional manufacturing hubs.

“Uttar Pradesh is emerging as the next big growth destination for pharmaceuticals and healthcare manufacturing. With stable governance, strong infrastructure, and investor-friendly policies, we welcome Japan’s partnership in our growth story,” Singh said.

The state government has identified Lucknow, Noida, and Gorakhpur as key nodes for pharma and biotech clusters, with plug-and-play facilities, dedicated R&D zones, and export-oriented incentives.

Industry experts note that the collaboration between Japan and Uttar Pradesh could lead to the transfer of cutting-edge pharmaceutical technology, joint ventures in API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) production, and the establishment of medical equipment manufacturing units.

This initiative comes as part of UP’s broader plan to attract ₹10 lakh crore in investments under the Global Investors Summit roadmap, which has already seen interest from companies across sectors like electronics, logistics, and renewable energy.

Officials added that discussions are underway with leading Japanese firms for potential partnerships in pharma packaging, biotechnology, and clinical research infrastructure.

With a growing industrial base and a proactive government, Uttar Pradesh’s ambition to become India’s next pharma hub seems well on track — now with a strong international focus on collaboration and innovation.
