Uttar Pradesh Government Allocates ₹125 Crore for Flatted Factory Project to Empower MSMEs

Published:

In a major step towards strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Uttar Pradesh government has announced an investment of ₹125 crore for the development of a flatted factory complex. This initiative aims to provide state-of-the-art industrial infrastructure to small businesses that lack space for manufacturing operations, especially in urban areas.

What Is a Flatted Factory Project?

A flatted factory is a multi-storey industrial complex designed to accommodate multiple MSMEs under one roof. These factories are equipped with shared facilities such as elevators, power backup, water supply, and waste management systems. The concept is particularly beneficial in densely populated cities where land scarcity and high real estate costs pose challenges to small manufacturers.

Project Overview and Key Features

  • Investment Amount: ₹125 crore

  • Implementing Authority: Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of Uttar Pradesh

  • Location: To be established in key urban centers and industrial clusters

  • Target Beneficiaries: MSMEs operating in sectors such as garments, handicrafts, electronics, plastics, and food processing

  • Project Structure: Multi-storey buildings with modular factory units ranging from 500 to 2000 sq. ft.

  • Facilities Provided:

    • Common utility services

    • Fire safety and security systems

    • Centralized logistics and warehousing support

    • Business incubation and training centers

Objectives of the Flatted Factory Scheme

  • Space Optimization: Utilize vertical infrastructure to reduce land usage in industrial zones.

  • Cost Efficiency: Offer affordable factory units to MSMEs unable to buy or lease large plots.

  • Boost Employment: Create direct and indirect jobs by facilitating the growth of small enterprises.

  • Encourage Urban Manufacturing: Promote environmentally compliant industrial development in urban and semi-urban areas.

  • Support MSME Ecosystem: Enable startups and small businesses to scale operations with better access to infrastructure.

Expected Impact on Uttar Pradesh’s Industrial Landscape

The flatted factory scheme aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s broader vision to become a $1 trillion economy by promoting inclusive industrial growth. The state has witnessed a surge in MSME registrations and exports in recent years, and this project is expected to:

  • Provide factory space to hundreds of MSMEs

  • Enhance productivity and reduce operating costs

  • Encourage women entrepreneurs and youth-led startups

  • Foster export-oriented manufacturing clusters

Government’s Continued Support for MSMEs

This initiative follows a series of supportive measures by the Uttar Pradesh government, including:

  • ODOP (One District One Product) scheme promotion

  • MSME Udyam registration drives

  • Ease of Doing Business reforms

  • Subsidies for technology adoption and quality certification
