Lucknow, 26th Aug: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved new workplace rules aimed at strengthening occupational safety, healthcare and working conditions for private-sector workers across the state.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, which approved the Uttar Pradesh Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Rules, 2026.
Under the new framework, establishments employing at least 10 workers will be required to provide joining or appointment letters. The provision is intended to give workers formal proof of employment and strengthen their workplace rights.
The rules also provide for free annual health check-ups for workers, with particular relevance to employees working in industrial and potentially hazardous environments.
Depending on applicable requirements, workplaces will also have to provide facilities such as canteens and rest rooms. Specific provisions have been introduced to regulate night shifts with a focus on worker safety and welfare.
The move comes amid concerns over wages and working conditions in industrial areas of Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, where workers have recently raised grievances over salaries and workplace practices.
The state government said the new rules are aimed at creating safer workplaces while improving healthcare, welfare and employment-related protections for private-sector workers.
