Kendrapara- In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through Odisha’s Kendrapara district, a 50-year-old man took his own life after allegedly being falsely accused of rape — a charge that police say was orchestrated by two journalists and a woman now on the run.

The man, a resident of a village under Patkura police station, was found hanging from a tree on Thursday. A suicide note discovered at the scene named the two journalists and a 31-year-old woman, accusing them of framing him in a fabricated rape case and pushing him to the edge.
According to the police, the woman had filed a rape complaint against the victim after being prompted by the two accused journalists. The man, reportedly unable to bear the public humiliation and legal pressure, chose to end his life.
His grieving wife later approached the police, demanding justice and holding the trio responsible for what she called a deliberate attempt to ruin her husband’s life. The police acted swiftly, arresting the journalists—one associated with a private TV news channel, the other with a YouTube news outlet. A local court has since rejected their bail plea and remanded them to judicial custody.
The woman, who allegedly conspired with the journalists, remains absconding. Authorities have launched a search operation to trace her whereabouts.
Locals are shaken by the incident, questioning how trusted voices in the media could be involved in such a grave act. “He was a quiet man, respected in the community. He didn’t deserve to go like this,” said a neighbour, mourning the loss.
As the investigation unfolds, the case raises painful questions about journalistic integrity, the misuse of legal systems, and the deep scars left behind when justice is manipulated.
