Bhilwara: A burglary at a mobile phone shop in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara has drawn attention after CCTV footage allegedly captured one of the suspects wearing a mask featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face to conceal his identity. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace those involved in the theft.
Burglary reported at mobile shop
The incident took place around midnight at Mateshwari Mobile Shop in Kareda, where burglars allegedly entered the premises by forcing open the staircase gate from the rooftop.
According to the shop owner, the accused managed to gain access to the store before fleeing with several smartphones.
The burglary came to light the following morning when the owner opened the shop and discovered it had been ransacked.
Shop owner estimates loss
Shop owner Laxman Sen said mobile phones were missing from the store and goods had been scattered across the premises.
He estimated that around 30 to 40 smartphones, valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, were stolen during the burglary.
The extent of the loss is being verified as part of the police investigation.
CCTV captures suspect wearing PM mask
CCTV footage installed inside the shop reportedly captured one of the burglars wearing a mask resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi while carrying out the theft.
Police are examining the footage to identify the suspects and gather additional evidence.
Investigators have not commented on whether the mask was used solely to conceal the accused’s identity or if there was any other motive behind its use.
Police launch investigation
Kareda Police Station officer Puranmal Meena and his team visited the scene after receiving information about the burglary.
The police inspected the shop, registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Officials are analysing CCTV footage and collecting other evidence to trace those responsible for the theft.
Another theft attempt reported
Police said another attempted burglary was reported on the same night at Sanwariya Mobile Shop near the Seed Godown junction in Kareda.
According to CCTV footage from that location, a suspect wearing a similar mask was allegedly seen trying to break the shutter lock of the shop.
Investigators are examining whether the two incidents are connected and whether the same group was involved.
Traders seek tighter security
The incidents have raised concerns among traders in Kareda, who have demanded stronger night patrolling and enhanced security measures to prevent similar crimes.
Local shopkeepers have urged the authorities to increase police presence in commercial areas, particularly during night hours.
Conclusion
Police continue to investigate the Bhilwara burglary by analysing CCTV footage and other evidence. Authorities are also looking into the attempted break-in at another mobile shop to determine whether both incidents were carried out by the same group of burglars.
