GG News Bureau
Raipur, 11th Sept: Ten Maoists were gunned down on Thursday during a fierce encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district. The exchange of fire erupted in the dense forest under Mainpur police station limits when a joint team of Special Task Force (STF), CoBRA commandos, and state police launched an anti-Maoist operation, Raipur Range Inspector General of Police Amresh Mishra confirmed.

“Intermittent exchange of fire is still underway,” Mishra said, adding that security personnel continue to comb the area.

In a separate development earlier in the day, 16 Maoists surrendered in Narayanpur district. According to Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria, the cadres cited frustration with the “hollow” Maoist ideology, atrocities on innocent tribals, and growing internal rifts as reasons for laying down arms.

The surrendering members belonged to lower ranks of the Janatana Sarkar, Chetna Natya Mandli, and panchayat militia, but police said their roles were vital in sustaining the insurgency.
