Bengaluru: At an age when many professionals settle into established careers, Bengaluru-based entrepreneur Janhavi Ajit Rao chose a completely different path. At 40, she walked into a medical college classroom to begin her MBBS journey, leaving behind a successful career in technology.

Her remarkable story has gone viral on social media, inspiring thousands with its message that age should never be a barrier to pursuing one’s dreams.

From technology to medicine

Janhavi, originally from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, built an impressive career as a software engineer, working with leading American technology companies before relocating to Bengaluru in 2002 with her husband.

After returning to India, she continued working in the technology sector and later founded her own defence electronics company based in Bengaluru.

However, her life took an unexpected turn in 2003 when she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease. During her treatment, the dedication and compassion shown by doctors inspired her to consider an entirely new profession.

Began MBBS at the age of 40

Determined to follow her calling, Janhavi enrolled at MS Ramaiah Medical College in Bengaluru in 2013 to pursue MBBS at the age of 40.

Returning to academics after nearly two decades and studying alongside classmates much younger than herself was a daunting challenge. Despite the odds, she remained focused and completed her medical degree after years of rigorous study.

Today, at 47, she is pursuing her MD while working as a Primary Care Physician in the United States.

Story inspires social media

Janhavi’s journey gained widespread attention after it was shared on social media platform X, where users praised her courage, determination and resilience.

Many described her story as proof that it is never too late to learn, reinvent oneself or pursue a lifelong dream. Others said her journey demonstrates how perseverance and passion can overcome age and career boundaries.

Her inspiring transformation from engineer and entrepreneur to doctor continues to motivate aspiring professionals and students across the country, reminding them that meaningful career changes are possible at any stage of life.#Bengaluru #Inspiration #Education #CareerChange #Doctor #SuccessStory #NewsKarnataka
