Rachel Brosnahan is stepping into one of the most iconic roles in comic book history — Lois Lane — in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman, starring opposite David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel.

Speaking about the opportunity, Brosnahan shares her excitement and deep connection to the character, particularly drawn to Lois’s drive, purpose, and humanity in a world teeming with super-powered beings.
“One of the reasons these stories have endured is because, beyond the aliens and superheroes, they remind us of the real-life heroes who walk among us,” she says. “As a journalist, Lois is one of them — someone who fights for the truth and never backs down.”
For Brosnahan, Lois Lane is not just a love interest or sidekick but a symbol of courage and agency in a chaotic world. “These stories push us to explore what it means to be human — and Lois embodies that journey. Metropolis may feel far removed from our reality, but it also mirrors it. Lois, Jimmy, the Daily Planet crew — even Lex in his own twisted way — are how the audience finds their place in this world.”
“We’re Standing on the Shoulders of Giants”
Taking on a legacy role like Lois Lane comes with immense pressure, but Brosnahan says the team is approaching it with reverence — and perspective.
“If we think too much about the responsibility, it can be overwhelming. These characters have lived many lives — through comic books, animation, and incredible performances by actors before us. We’re standing on the shoulders of giants,” she acknowledges.
Still, she notes, the ultimate goal is to honour the fans who’ve loved these characters for generations. “At some point, all you can do is trust your director, do the work, and show up ready to give it your all.”
Dreaming of Bollywood
Brosnahan also expressed heartfelt appreciation for her Indian fanbase and revealed a desire to explore Indian cinema someday.
“It would be such an honour to be part of an Indian film,” she says with a smile. “While working on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, we often spoke about Bollywood — the colour, the movement, the vibrance. It inspired us. To be part of that world would be a dream.”
With Superman slated to mark a bold new chapter in the DC Universe, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane promises to be more than just a fearless reporter — she’s poised to be the human heartbeat of a superhuman story.
