The temperatures in Kolkata touched 39°C and the heat index made it feel 49°C. Surviving in a match in such conditions was a challenge. Yet, amid all the tough conditions at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus, Adamas Howrah Warriors’ Sreyoshi Aich produced a match-winning bowling performance that stood out not just for its quality, but for the circumstances in which it was achieved.
The Bengal T20 Women’s match between Howrah Warriors and Servotech Siliguri Strikers was played under scorching heat, with players from both sides were frequently seeking hydration and relief from the server heat.
Defending a total of 159/2, Aich took that responsibility and registered a five-wicket haul while conceding just 14 runs in 3.3 overs. Her spell dismantled Strikers’ batting which helped them to dismiss the opponents for just 75 runs inside 16 overs.
Her wickets include Sneha Gupta, Priyanka Bala, captain Jhumia Khatoon, Sushmita Ganguly and Riya Kumari Mahato. Five-wicket hauls are always rare in T20 cricket and achieving that in such conditions is even more remarkable.
In the first inning Priyanka Prasad’s unbeaten 89 runs earned her the Player of the Match award which laid the foundation for the victory. Aich’s spell was the most notable performance of the second innings. Her ability to maintain accuracy and intensity despite the hot conditions highlighted both her skill and fitness.
In a conversation with RevSportz, founder and director of the Adams Howrah warriors, Rajat Subhara Roy, hailed the team for putting up such a strong performance. “I think it’s a great start, a professional performance today,” he said. “Batting, bowling as well as fileding, every department has been top-notch. Great start. I think we hope to keep this momentum going forward in the tournament.”
He further applauded Priyanka and Aich’s performances. “They both have done excellent today. I think they have outdone themselves beyond expectation. A five-wicket haul in a T20 game is not easy, not happens on a regular basis. As well as 89 on this ground, exceptional performance.”
