Sonipat News: New Storm Water Line Project Begins in Sector 15 to End Waterlogging Issues

Published:

Sonipat, Haryana: In a major relief for residents troubled by chronic waterlogging, the Municipal Corporation of Sonipat has launched a new storm water drainage line project in Sector 15. The initiative aims to permanently resolve the long-standing issue of water accumulation during the monsoon season.

The project, estimated to cost ₹8.4 crore, involves the installation of a modern underground storm water pipeline network designed to handle heavy rainfall efficiently. The new system will connect multiple sectors, including Sector 14, 15, and parts of Sector 12, channeling excess rainwater into the main drainage line that leads to the city’s outflow point.

Local officials confirmed that work has already begun, with teams conducting excavation and pipeline laying under strict quality supervision. According to Municipal Engineer Rajeev Malik, the project is expected to be completed within six months, before the next monsoon cycle.

Residents have welcomed the development, citing years of inconvenience due to stagnant water that damaged roads and caused health hazards. “During every monsoon, our streets turned into mini ponds. This project brings hope for a permanent solution,” said Neha Sharma, a Sector 15 resident.

The municipal body has also directed contractors to ensure minimum disruption to daily traffic and to follow safety measures during construction. Once completed, the new drainage infrastructure is expected to improve road longevity, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance the overall sanitation system of the area.

Officials added that similar projects are being planned in Sector 23, 24, and the Old City areas, as part of Sonipat’s broader mission to modernize urban infrastructure and make the city more resilient to climate-related challenges.
