Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar heaped praise on young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after he produced a stunning knock of 94 off just 28 balls in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka A on Sunday.

The knock came after Manjrekar had suggested disciplinary action against the 15-year-old following an on-field exchange. “If  I was India A coach or manager I would have left Vaibhav Sooryavanshi out for this game v AFG,” Manjrekar wrote on X. “Only to let him know that’s it’s not OK to get physical on the field. Whatever the provocations.”

Sooryavanshi smashed 10 boundaries and eight sixes, at s strike-rate of 324.13. He reached his half-century in just 11 balls. In the process, he also broke the List A record for the fastest fifty, surpassing Sri Lankan batter Kaushalya Weeraratne’s 12-ball record. He missed a well deserved century but his explosive knock helped India post a strong total of 377/9 in 50 overs.

Reacting to Sooryavanshi’s knock, Manjrekar posted on X, “Just realised Vaibhav looks at 50-over cricket as a format where he can create even more mayhem! What with only two fielders outside the circle for 10 overs! & not 6.”
