Skechers Marks 400-Store Milestone in India

Skechers, the globally renowned footwear brand from California, celebrated a significant milestone by surpassing 400 stores in India. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in the company’s expansion strategy, reflecting its growing influence in one of the world’s fastest-growing retail markets.

A Decade of Growth

Skechers entered India in 2012 through a partnership with the Future Group, establishing a joint venture that laid the foundation for its presence. The brand transitioned to a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2019 after acquiring Future Group’s 49% stake, signaling confidence in its Indian operations. The milestone was bolstered by the opening of seven new stores in June 2025, strategically located in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Jaipur, Dehradun, Faridabad, and Bengaluru. Manish Chandra, Head of Business Development at Skechers South Asia Pvt. Ltd., highlighted the achievement, stating, “This milestone is a testament to a great brand, product, and fellowship,” as noted in a recent LinkedIn update.

Expanding Beyond Metros

Skechers has strategically targeted tier-II and tier-III cities, recognizing the untapped potential in these regions. This approach, part of a plan outlined years ago to reach 400 stores within three to five years, has been exceeded ahead of schedule. The brand’s omnichannel strategy, integrating its online platform Skechers.in with physical stores, has further enhanced its reach, catering to a diverse consumer base across urban and semi-urban areas.

Diverse Offerings and Market Appeal

With over 3,000 styles catering to men, women, and children, Skechers has tailored its product range to suit Indian preferences, blending performance footwear with lifestyle sneakers. The recent inclusion of apparel and accessories has broadened its appeal, while premium pricing—such as sandals retailing at over Rs 4,400 ($65)—challenges perceptions of the Indian market, proving consumers’ willingness to invest in quality. The brand’s focus on comfort and innovation continues to resonate with a wide audience.

Future Outlook

With over 400 stores now operational, Skechers is poised for further growth, aiming to reach 500 stores in the near future. This expansion leverages India’s population of over 1.4 billion and the brand’s global network of over 5,000 stores across 180 countries. The milestone underscores Skechers’ successful adaptation to India’s dynamic retail landscape, blending international expertise with local insights to drive future success.
