Shri Sivasubramanian Ramann officially assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on June 20, 2025. His appointment, notified by the Government of India on April 8, 2025, is for a tenure of five years or until he reaches the age of 65, or until further orders—whichever comes first.
A distinguished officer from the 1991 batch of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS), Shri Ramann brings over three decades of extensive experience in public finance, regulatory governance, financial services, and technology.
A Career in Leadership Across Institutions
Before taking charge at PFRDA, Shri Ramann served as the Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General and Chief Technology Officer in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). His career has been marked by leadership positions across India’s premier financial and regulatory institutions.
He was earlier the Chairman and Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), where he played a significant role in empowering MSMEs and supporting inclusive economic growth. Prior to that, he served as Managing Director and CEO of National E-Governance Services Ltd. (NeSL), India’s first Information Utility under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
Between 2006 and 2013, Shri Ramann held key regulatory roles at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), first as Chief General Manager and later as Executive Director. He also served as the Principal Accountant General of Jharkhand, overseeing state-level financial oversight and audit.
A Strong Academic and Professional Foundation
Shri Ramann holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from the University of Delhi. He further enhanced his global perspective and regulatory expertise by completing an M.Sc. in Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In addition, he holds an LLB, a Chief Digital Officer certification from the Indian School of Business, the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) credential from the Institute of Internal Auditors, Florida, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Securities Law.
Vision for India’s Pension Sector
As the new head of PFRDA, Shri Ramann is expected to provide strategic direction and leadership to further strengthen India’s pension infrastructure, promote financial inclusion, and ensure retirement security for citizens across socioeconomic strata.
His multifaceted experience in auditing, regulatory frameworks, e-governance, and digital finance is poised to help PFRDA align with the Government of India’s broader objectives of expanding the reach and robustness of the National Pension System (NPS) and other retirement-focused initiatives.
