Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka, the BCCI has confirmed. Sarfaraz Khan has replaced him in the 15-member squad, as reported by Revsportz. The first Test of the two-match series in Galle is from August 15. The second Test is at the SSC in Colombo from August 23.
“The left-handed batter, who has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, has made significant progress in his recovery from the right toe stress reaction and is recovering well,” the BCCI said in its press release.
It added: “The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his progress.
“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
“He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first Test match, starting August 15, 2026.”
Sarfaraz last played for India in November 2024. Although he travelled to Australia for the five-Test series in 2024-25, the middle-order batsman didn’t get a game. Scoring consistently in domestic cricket finally has paid dividends again
The 28-year-old is a good player against spin and is someone who uses the sweep shot to good effect. With Devdutt Padikkal locked in at No. 3, the selection committee and the team management have decided to bolster the middle order.
