Shillong: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar is currently basking in the picturesque beauty and genial warmth of Meghalaya on a private trip with his family and close friends. The cricket great, along with his wife Anjali and daughter Sara, arrived in the picturesque hill state on Thursday and has been visiting some of the most famous places in the region.

From Sohra (Cherrapunji), the wettest place on Earth, to the picture-perfect Mawlynnong village, Asia’s cleanest village, Tendulkar’s tour schedule has had nature walks, cultural exposure, and foodie escapades. Fans and residents have been overjoyed with his visit, with numerous teenagers hanging around to get a glimpse of their idol.

One of the many highlights of his tour was his visit to the living root bridge in the Nohwet village, an incredible example of native Khasi engineering and environment-friendly living. The cricketer was said to be impressed by the fine architecture of the bridge and the green canopy that fringes it.

Tendulkar also savoured Meghalaya’s culinary diversity in all its glory. At the Shillong Marriott Hotel, he was serenaded by a special meal expertly crafted by MasterChef India finalist Nambie Marak, who prepared a Garo cuisine dinner in his honour.

“It was a surreal experience cooking for the legend,” Marak posted on Instagram. “He was humble, warm, and even taught me how to take a better selfie!”

His journey also involved a private family picnic at Umiam Lake, a holiday spot that is renowned for its magnificent views and serene waters. The family camped in a secluded resort nestled in the mountains with privacy and peace of mind far from prying eyes.

Tendulkar will reportedly have a high tea session with Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma prior to travelling to Kaziranga National Park in Assam for the remainder of his journey. He is due to return to Mumbai on April 9,
