Dehradun, 11th July: Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, along with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Saturday inaugurated the 6th Lok Samvardhan Parv in Dehradun, describing it as a major platform for promoting India’s artisans, weavers, traditional crafts and entrepreneurship.
Organised jointly by the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Uttarakhand Government under the PM VIKAS Scheme, the five-day festival marks the first time the flagship event is being hosted in partnership with a state government.
Addressing the gathering, Rijiju said the Centre is working under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, ensuring inclusive development without discrimination.
He said the festival is not limited to minority communities but is a celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for artisans and entrepreneurs.
Highlighting the Prime Minister’s “Vocal for Local” initiative, the Union Minister urged citizens to support indigenous products and traditional crafts, saying such efforts strengthen local economies and preserve India’s cultural diversity.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said Uttarakhand was proud to become the first state to collaborate with the Ministry in hosting Lok Samvardhan Parv, adding that the event would expose the state’s youth to the country’s diverse artisanal traditions while giving local craftsmen a national platform.
The festival features around 150 exhibition stalls, including nearly 40 per cent dedicated to Uttarakhand’s handicrafts and traditional products, along with crafts from various states and Union Territories.
Visitors can also witness live craft demonstrations, buyer-seller interactions, entrepreneurship sessions and cultural performances, besides enjoying traditional cuisines from Uttarakhand and across India.
The event, being held at Parade Ground, Dehradun, will continue until July 15 and is open to the public daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
