When India took on the Netherlands at Headingley in Leeds on June 17, there was a vibrant and colourful atmosphere around the ground.

Eventually, it was a big win for the Women in Blue, their second victory in as many games. However, it also brought unfortunate news, with young spinner Shreyanka Patil suffering an ankle injury that has ruled her out of the remainder of the tournament.

For the Netherlands, meanwhile, playing in their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup was a significant occasion. Facing a quality side like India was not only an exciting opportunity but also a chance to learn from one of the top teams in world cricket.

Despite being a typical weekday, a decent crowd of 9,155 turned up, with much of the colour and energy coming from the Dutch supporters.

The Dutch fans were equally enthusiastic. Speaking to RevSportz, two supporters admitted they were disappointed by their team’s opening defeat to Bangladesh. However, they arrived for the India game full of belief that the Netherlands could pull off an upset. Their smiles, energy and enthusiasm stood out throughout the day.

Credit must also go to the ICC for organising several games and activities around the Headingley premises. A large number of school students attended the match and actively participated in those activities.

Among them, one game particularly caught RevSportz’s attention. The activity was called ‘Stumped! Who Am I?’. Volunteers arranged placards featuring players from the four participating teams in rows, with identical sets placed on opposite sides. Two participants stood on either side and secretly selected one player each.

The objective was to identify the chosen player within three questions. Participants could ask only yes-or-no questions, such as whether the player belonged to a particular country or whether she was a batter, bowler or all-rounder. After each answer, they could eliminate placards that no longer matched the clues.

The writer and senior colleague Trisha Ghosal took part in the game. The writer selected India all rounder Deepti Sharma, while Trisha chose Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty. Neither could guess correctly in the first two rounds. At one stage, a question about Australia helped eliminate all Australian players. Trisha also identified India as the correct country but initially guessed the wrong player, leaving only a handful of options.

Eventually, both participants identified the correct players in the final round, bringing the game to an entertaining conclusion.

It proved to be a fun activity for the RevSportz team before attention shifted back to India’s bid to strengthen their grip on a semi-final spot, something they successfully achieved with another convincing victory.
