India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu began her BWF World Championships 2026 campaign with a commanding win over Ireland’s Sophia Noble, 21-7, 21-11, in just 29 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Arena on Monday.
Sindhu was in control from the opening rally and quickly took a comfortable lead before wrapping up the first game 21-7.
The second game followed a similar pattern, with Sindhu taking a 12-9 lead. Sophia tried to fight her way back into the match and made it 15-10, but Sindhu remained composed and continued to dominate.
The Indian star moved further ahead at 18-10 before closing out the game 21-11 to seal a comfortable straight-game victory.
While Sindhu controlled the rallies on court, the Indian fans ensured that the atmosphere inside the arena was equally impressive.
The stands echoed with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “India – India” and “Sindhu – Sindhu” as the home crowd threw its support behind the former world champion.
Sindhu will now face Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang in the Round of 32.
