India have made two changes to their squads after injuries forced Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy out of the upcoming matches. Prince Yadav has replaced Harshit in the ODI squad, while Ravi Bishnoi will replace Varun in the T20I squad for the Zimbabwe series.
Harshit suffered a hamstring injury during the T20I series against England. After the medical assessment, the BCCI confirmed that he will need time to recover, so he has been ruled out of the ODI matches. Prince, who was already with the team for the T20Is against England, has now earned another opportunity to prove himself in the 50-over game.
“Rana reported a sudden onset of discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. Subsequent scans revealed a Grade 1 hamstring injury. He has been ruled out of the forthcoming ODI series against England and will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for further assessment and management,” stated the BCCI press release.
Varun has also been ruled out after picking up a hamstring injury during the England series. The spinner will now focus on his recovery at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Bishnoi will be his replacement for the three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe. The leg-spinner couldn’t make much impact against England but he will aim to make the most of this chances.
“Chakaravarthy also reported a sudden onset of discomfort in his left hamstring during the third T20I against England. An MRI scan subsequently revealed a Grade 2 hamstring injury. Based on specialist medical advice, he has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. He will report to the BCCI COE for further management,” said the BCCI release.
India are currently focused on their three-match ODI series against England starting on Tuesday in Birmingham.
