Ranchi/Chaibasa — A policeman was killed and a CRPF CoBRA commando injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Maoists in a remote hilly area of Jharkhand’s Chaibasa region on Saturday.

The explosion occurred during an anti-Maoist operation being carried out jointly by the Jharkhand Jaguar unit and the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA battalion in West Singhbhum district.
According to police officials, Sunil Dhan of the Jharkhand Jaguar sustained critical injuries in the blast and was airlifted along with injured CoBRA jawan Vishnu Saini to the state capital Ranchi for treatment. However, Sunil Dhan succumbed to his injuries en route.
“Two jawans – one from CoBRA 203 battalion and another from Jharkhand Jaguar – were injured in the incident. Both were airlifted to Ranchi for better treatment,” Kolhan DIG Manoj Ratan Chothe told news agency PTI.
DIG Chothe added that a large-scale anti-Maoist operation is underway in the area, during which several other IEDs planted by the Maoists have been detected and defused by the forces.
