Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off four new Vande Bharat trains from Varanasi, marking another milestone in India’s push toward modern, high-speed railway connectivity.
The new trains will run on key intercity routes in northern and eastern India, improving travel speed, comfort, and regional accessibility. Railway officials said the additions are designed to ease congestion on heavily traveled corridors and support rising passenger demand.
Addressing the gathering at Varanasi Junction, Modi said the Vande Bharat network symbolizes India’s “new pace, new ambition,” and highlighted the trains’ role in transforming public transport. The Prime Minister added that expanding semi-high-speed rail infrastructure will give a strong boost to tourism, business, and regional development.
Each of the flagged-off trains features upgraded safety systems, improved seating, better energy efficiency, and enhanced passenger amenities. The new routes are expected to reduce travel time significantly and offer a smoother intercity travel experience.
Crowds lined the platforms as the gleaming blue-and-white trains rolled out simultaneously, creating a celebratory scene in the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency.
With these additions, India continues to scale up its Vande Bharat fleet, bringing the country closer to its goal of modernizing long-distance passenger travel.
