PM Modi Departs for South Africa to Attend 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit

Published:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Johannesburg, South Africa, to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, marking a historic moment as the global forum convenes on the African continent for the first time. His three-day visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Global South and contributing to global economic and climate-related discussions.

Before leaving, the Prime Minister stated that India would present its vision rooted in the principles of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” themes that guided India’s own G20 presidency. During the summit, Modi is scheduled to address all three plenary sessions focusing on inclusive growth, disaster resilience, climate action, energy transition, critical minerals, decent work, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

The summit’s broader agenda revolves around the themes of solidarity, equality, and sustainability. India is expected to advocate for reforms in global governance, enhanced financing for developing nations, and stronger climate equity frameworks.

On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi will also participate in the sixth IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) Leaders’ Meeting, where the three nations will discuss cooperation in trade, development, and multilateral platforms.

The visit is seen as a key opportunity for India to reinforce its growing global role, strengthen South-South partnerships, and contribute meaningfully to shaping a more balanced and fair world order.
