The ICC has approved the use of a pink ball in Tests on a trial basis. So far, the use of a pink ball has been restricted to day/night Tests only. But the ICC Board, which met in Ahmedabad on Sunday, agreed that using a pink ball in day games might be useful in maximising play by offsetting bad light.

“Trialling the use of a pink ball in Test matches, with prior agreement from both teams, to maximise play in case of anticipated bad light,” stated the ICC in a press release.

The global body has also agreed to further empower coaches by allowing them to enter the field of play and give inputs during drinks breaks.

“Updates to the Playing Conditions to allow head coaches or their designees to consult with teams during scheduled drinks intervals, mandate 15-minute intervals in T20I matches, and require batters to be ready at the resumption of play,” said the ICC release.

Meanwhile, the ICC Board approved a change to the window for the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027, moving the tournament from June-July to February 14–28, 2027.

ICC suspends Cricket Canada

The ICC Board took the decision to suspend Cricket Canada from ICC membership with immediate effect due to “serious breaches of its membership obligations”.

The ICC Board, though, was mindful of the importance of protecting the interests of Canadian players and has ensured that they don’t suffer. Accordingly, Canadian national representative teams will continue to be eligible to participate in ICC events during the period of suspension.

Speaking on the developments, ICC chair Jay Shah said: “Our discussions in Ahmedabad have reinforced the ICC’s commitment to governance, administration and the growth of cricket globally. From women’s cricket and emerging nations to the management of franchise competitions, today’s discussions and decisions aim to ensure that cricket remains fair, competitive, and exciting for fans worldwide.
