Musk’s Starlink Begins Recruitment Drive in India Ahead of Service Launch

Published:

Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture, Starlink, has officially begun its recruitment process in India, signaling that the company is gearing up for a commercial launch after months of regulatory preparations.

According to industry sources, Starlink is hiring for key roles in government relations, operations, and technical support, as it works toward obtaining the necessary licenses from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Focus on Rural Connectivity

Starlink aims to bridge India’s digital divide by providing high-speed satellite internet to rural and remote regions where terrestrial broadband remains limited. The company plans to offer internet speeds between 100 Mbps and 250 Mbps, depending on location and infrastructure readiness.

A Starlink spokesperson said:

“India represents one of the most important markets for Starlink. Our recruitment efforts are focused on building a local team that can support customers and coordinate with regulatory authorities as we prepare to roll out services.”

Regulatory and Market Context

Starlink had previously paused its operations in India after the government directed the company to stop taking pre-orders in 2021 due to lack of official clearance. Since then, the company has restructured its local unit, submitted updated license applications, and held multiple rounds of discussions with Indian authorities.

If approved, Starlink will compete with players like OneWeb (backed by Bharti Group), JioSpaceFiber, and Amazon’s Project Kuiper — all aiming to tap India’s growing demand for satellite broadband.

Investment and Expansion Plans

The company is reportedly exploring partnerships with local telecom providers for ground infrastructure and distribution. Analysts suggest that Starlink could start pilot services in select Indian states by early 2026, depending on regulatory approvals.
