Mumbai Port Unveils ₹5,028-Cr Projects on 154th Foundation Day

Mumbai, 26th June: Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) on Thursday celebrated its 154th Foundation Day by unveiling 63 development projects worth ₹5,028.17 crore, with Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal describing the port as a key driver of India’s maritime growth and economic transformation.

The Foundation Day celebrations, held under the theme “Together We Can”, were attended by Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur, senior officials and industry stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Sonowal said Mumbai Port has played a pivotal role in transforming Mumbai into India’s financial and commercial capital and continues to create new opportunities in investment, tourism, logistics and energy security.

He highlighted major initiatives including the International Cruise Terminal, ferry jetty projects, Jawahar Dweep reclamation and energy infrastructure developments, saying they align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of port-led development.

During the event, Mumbai Port Authority announced seven inaugurated projects worth ₹132.29 crore, laid foundation stones for 34 projects valued at ₹1,354.59 crore, and announced 22 additional projects worth ₹3,541.29 crore.

The Authority also exchanged agreements for the Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance project and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina, aimed at strengthening port operations, waterfront development and efficient utilisation of port assets.

Minister of State Shantanu Thakur said institutions such as Mumbai Port Authority have a vital role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, while Ports Secretary Vijay Kumar noted that the port is embracing the future through cruise tourism, waterfront development, green initiatives and efficient asset utilisation.

Chairperson Dr. M. Angamuthu highlighted the port’s highest-ever cargo throughput of 70 million tonnes and stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to drive efficiency and growth.

The programme also featured the screening of a documentary on Mumbai Port’s journey, a commemorative film marking 100 years of the Mumbai Port Sports Club, and awards recognising employees, sports achievers and stakeholders for their contributions to the port’s development.
