Mohun Bagan Super Giant continue their preparations for the 2026-27 season by completing the signings of Serbian midfielder Dejan Drazic and Indian defender Alex Saji, adding quality in both attack and defence ahead of the Durand Cup and the new campaign.
Drazic has signed a two-year contract with the club after spending the last two seasons with FC Goa. The 30-year-old arrives in Kolkata as the Bagan’s first foreign signing of the season and is expected to add creativity and goals from midfield.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Drazic can also operate on the left wing. He scored six goals and provided two assists in the ISL last season and brings experience from the UEFA Champions League, the Serbian SuperLiga and Spain’s La Liga. Mohun Bagan believe his partnership with Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira could become a key component of the team’s midfield this season.
Speaking after signing for the club, Drazic said Mohun Bagan’s winning culture played a major role in his decision.
“From the moment the offer arrived, I didn’t hesitate. Mohun Bagan is one of the biggest clubs in Asia with an incredible history and fan base. This is a club that plays to win trophies, and that matches my mentality,” he said.
The Serbian also admitted that he is looking forward to experiencing the Kolkata derby for the first time, describing it as one of the biggest rivalries in Asian football.
At the back, Mohun Bagan have secured the services of centre-back Alex Saji on a three-year deal as part of the club’s long-term plans.
The 26-year-old Kerala defender joins after a season with Sporting Club Delhi and has previously represented Gokulam Kerala, Kerala Blasters and NorthEast United. Standing at 6’2″, Saji is known for his aerial ability and physical presence in defence.
For Saji, joining Mohun Bagan fulfils a long-held ambition.
“Playing for Mohun Bagan has always been a dream. My family and I are extremely proud. It is an honour to be part of such a historic club, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success,” he said.
He also praised the strength of the current squad and expressed confidence in new head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis.
“We have a very strong squad with experienced players. Under Coach Panos, I’m sure we will continue to play as a strong unit. I also see this as a great opportunity to learn from the senior players in the dressing room,” Saji added.
With two important additions in midfield and defence, Mohun Bagan have taken another step in strengthening their squad as they prepare to compete on multiple fronts this season.
