Mission: Impossible 8 Debuts with Franchise’s Lowest Rotten Tomatoes Score Since 2006

Published:

Tom Cruise’s latest installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” has premiered with an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the lowest-rated entry in the series since 2006’s “Mission: Impossible III.”

While the score still qualifies as “Certified Fresh,” it marks a modest dip compared to the high critical acclaim of recent entries like Fallout (97%) and Rogue Nation (94%).

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film continues the saga of Ethan Hunt as he takes on a new and complex global threat. Though critics largely praised the film for its intense action sequences and Tom Cruise’s trademark stunt work, some reviews noted a slower narrative pace and a more convoluted plot, which may have impacted its critical reception.

Despite the slightly lower rating, audience anticipation remains high. The film is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2025, with fans eager to see how this chapter will conclude Ethan Hunt’s high-stakes journey.
