Bhopal, 24th Oct. Days after the bust of a large-scale mephedrone (MD) manufacturing unit operating on leased industrial land in Bagroda, Bhopal, police arrested Jaideep Singh, the original leaseholder of the property. Singh, 58, had been on the run for nearly three weeks after illegally selling the land. He was arrested on Thursday following surveillance of his mobile phone, according to Brijendra Nigam, inspector at Katara Hills police station.
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided the factory on October 5, seizing 907 kg of mephedrone, worth approximately ₹1,814 crore in illicit markets. The drug unit had a capacity to produce 25 kg of the banned substance daily.
The factory was situated about 30 km from the Madhya Pradesh Police headquarters and 15 km from Katara Hills police station. The investigation led to the arrest of four other individuals—Amit Chaturvedi, Sanyal Baner, Harish Aanjana, and Premsukh Patidar—who were involved in the drug operation.
The probe revealed that the 11,000 square feet plot was originally leased by the Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam (MPAKVN) to Singh in 2021 for setting up a furniture business. However, in 2023, Singh sold the land to S K Singh, who in turn rented it to Chaturvedi. Neither of them informed the MPAKVN, as required under government regulations.
S K Singh was arrested on October 7 for failing to notify the authorities as mandated by a government order issued in August. Both Jaideep Singh and S K Singh have been booked under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for disobeying lawful orders.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities focusing on the illegal sale and misuse of industrial land for illicit drug manufacturing.
