Wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat has bid farewell to international cricket at the age of 32, bringing an end to his journey with Team India. Bharat represented India in seven Test matches between 2023 and 2024, where he made valuable contributions behind the stumps and with the bat.
Announcing his decision on social media, Bharat expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play for India. “With a proud heart and a sense of gratitude, I announce my retirement from international cricket,” he wrote. “To play for my country has been the greatest honour of my life.”
Bharat earned his place in the Indian squad after years of consistent performances in domestic cricket. He was initially included as a backup wicketkeeper during India’s tour of the West Indies, which gave him the opportunity to make his Test debut during the 2023 Border–Gavaskar Trophy. In seven Tests, he scored 221 runs at an average of 20.09 while also playing an important role behind the stumps. He last played for India in a Test match against England in Visakhapatnam in February 2024.
In his retirement message, Bharat also acknowledged the BCCI, Andhra Cricket Association, VDCA, his captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and former India head coach Rahul Dravid for their support throughout his journey.
Apart from international cricket, Bharat also represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2021 and Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2022. He played 10 matches in the IPL and scored 199 runs.
