Kriti Sanon says her only competition is with herself

Published:

Mumbai: Actor Kriti Sanon has opened up about how she views success and competition in the film industry, saying that her focus remains on personal growth rather than comparing herself with other actors.

The actress, who is currently seen in Cocktail 2, said she believes confidence and self-awareness are essential in navigating an industry often driven by box office numbers, rankings and comparisons.

Kriti says she is only competing with herself

Speaking about the constant conversations surrounding competition among actresses and the pressure to stay ahead, Kriti said her biggest competitor has always been herself.

“If you just know what you’re doing, what you want to do in life and where you’re headed, and if you’re secure in yourself, none of it matters,” she said.

The actress added that many discussions about competition are often driven by external perceptions and can make people feel insecure.

“Everyone brings something different to the table. There’s no one way of doing a scene. The only race that I’m in is that I want to do better than what I have done before,” she said.

According to Kriti, genuine growth as an actor comes from consistently improving and challenging oneself rather than measuring success against others.

Focus on growth and better performances

Elaborating on her philosophy, the actress said she wants every new performance to surpass her previous work.

“I genuinely want to grow and I want the next performance to feel like, ‘Oh, this is her best,’ or ‘This is better than the previous one.’ That is an achievement to me because that charts my growth,” she said.

Kriti’s remarks underline her approach to choosing projects and evaluating her career trajectory. Rather than relying on external benchmarks, she believes creative evolution and continuous improvement are the real indicators of success.

Her comments come at a time when discussions surrounding competition in the Hindi film industry frequently dominate social media platforms and fan debates.

Enjoying the success of Cocktail 2

Kriti is currently enjoying the theatrical run of Cocktail 2, in which she plays the character Ally.

The romantic comedy-drama is directed by Homi Adajania and co-written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain.

The film has been produced by Maddock Films and Luv Films.

A spiritual sequel to the 2012 film Cocktail, the movie also stars Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles.

The film was shot across Sicily, Delhi and Gurugram. Production began in August 2025 and concluded in January 2026 before its theatrical release on June 19, 2026.

A message on self-belief

Kriti’s comments reflect an increasingly common perspective among actors who advocate focusing on personal goals and artistic growth instead of industry comparisons.

By emphasising self-improvement over competition, the actress has highlighted the importance of confidence, individuality and continuous learning in building a successful and sustainable career in cinema.
