Kolkata , 28th Nov. Kolkata is preparing to say goodbye to its emblematic yellow taxis, a symbol of the city’s identity for decades. This year, around 4,500 of these iconic cabs are set to disappear, with an additional 2,500 expected to be phased out next year.

The decision marks the end of an era, as these taxis, known for their Ambassador make and distinct yellow hue, have long been synonymous with the charm of Kolkata’s streets. However, evolving transportation demands, environmental regulations, and the rise of app-based cab services have contributed to their decline.
For many, the yellow taxi is more than just a mode of transport—it’s a cultural icon. While newer options promise convenience and modernization, the departure of these classic cabs is bittersweet, evoking nostalgia for a simpler time in the city’s bustling history.
