Cricket will have a special place at the Asian Games 2026, with the sport returning to the continental multi-sport event in Aichi-Nagoya. The men’s and women’s T20 competitions will be held at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture.

The venue is located around 20 kilometres east of Nagoya and represents an important step for cricket in Japan. The ground was created by transforming a site that was previously used for baseball.

From baseball fields to a cricket ground
The cricket ground at Korogi Athletic Park was completed in March 2026 after three existing baseball fields were converted into a dedicated cricket facility.

The Japan Cricket Association and local organisers wanted to create a permanent venue instead of building a temporary stadium that would be removed after the Asian Games. The ground has also become one of only two facilities in Japan with a natural-grass pitch that meets international cricket standards.

The venue has a spectator capacity of around 300, although temporary seating is expected to be added for major tournaments.

Korogi Athletic Park made its international debut in May 2026, when it hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Sub-regional Qualifier. The tournament was part of the qualification pathway for the 2028 Men’s T20 World Cup.

For the local community, the event also provided an opportunity to watch international cricket at a time when the sport is still developing in Japan.

A new chapter for cricket in Japan

The development of Korogi Athletic Park is a significant change for cricket in Japan, particularly given the country’s strong connection with baseball.

For years, the site was used mainly for baseball. Its transformation into a cricket facility shows how Japan’s existing sporting infrastructure can also make space for a growing international sport.

Both the men’s and women’s T20 cricket competitions will be played at the venue, bringing players from across Asia to Nisshin.

For India, cricket’s presence at the Asian Games will be closely followed by fans, with the Indian men’s and women’s teams expected to be among the major attractions.

Discovering Nisshin City

The cricket ground is located in Nisshin City, a growing city in eastern Aichi.

Nisshin was once primarily an agricultural area but has developed into a modern residential and educational centre. The city is home to the Nisshin campus of Aichi Gakuin University and has a strong connection with education.

Despite its urban growth, Nisshin has preserved plenty of green spaces and parks. Outdoor activities and community sports are an important part of local life, giving Korogi Athletic Park a natural place within the city.

A permanent legacy for cricket

Cricket remains a developing sport in Japan, where baseball has traditionally dominated the sporting landscape. Having a permanent international-standard ground gives the Japan Cricket Association a facility that can be used for future competitions, training and the development of local players.

Instead of disappearing after the Games, the venue will remain part of Japan’s cricket infrastructure. That makes the ground more than just another Asian Games venue. It represents an attempt to build a lasting future for cricket in the country, especially with cricket set to return to the Olympics in 2028 after 128 years.

How to reach the venue

Korogi Athletic Park can be reached by train and bus. Public transport is recommended during the Asian Games due to road and parking restrictions around the venue.

By train: Take the Linimo Line to Nagakute Kosenjo Station, the nearest station to the park.

From Nagoya Station: Take the Higashiyama Subway Line to Fujigaoka Station and then transfer to the Linimo Line.

From Nagakute Kosenjo Station: The park is around a 12-minute walk from the station.
