Bengaluru, 17th Sept. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced on Tuesday that the alleged involvement of “outsiders” linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in the recent violence in Nagamangala will be thoroughly investigated, with actions taken based on the findings. The violence erupted during a Ganesh idol procession on September 11 in Mandya district, leading to clashes, vandalism, and arson.
“We will examine everything and take action based on the inquiry report,” Parameshwara told reporters. “No one will be protected, and no one will be punished without cause. We will act according to the facts presented in the report.”
The Minister confirmed that two police officials—a Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Inspector—have already been suspended in connection with the incident. He emphasized that the government is taking the violence seriously and will not overlook such incidents.
Regarding the allegations of involvement by banned PFI members, Parameshwara stated that if the investigation confirms their involvement, appropriate measures will be taken. He dismissed calls from the BJP for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe, asserting that the state government will handle the investigation internally.
The violence began when a dispute erupted between two groups during the Ganesh procession, leading to stone-pelting, vandalism of shops, and burning of vehicles.
Parameshwara also addressed criticisms about the arrest of BJP MLA Munirathna, who was detained on charges including bribery and caste-based harassment. The Minister defended the police action, stating it was based on a complaint and was necessary.
Additionally, Parameshwara discussed recent seizures of illegal items from Parappana Agrahara Prison, including smartphones. He assured that an investigation is underway, and action will be taken if any wrongdoing is found.
